The GACTC celebrated the accomplishments of seven postsecondary students that will complete the medical assistant diploma program at the end of November with a graduation ceremony on November 7th. After completion of the 240-hour clinical externship with a local medical facility, they will complete all program requirements. Many have already passed the American Association of Medical Assistants Certified Medical Assistant exam and the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam!
This is the inaugural class of the hybrid medical assistant diploma program. Students in the hybrid program attend class sessions two evenings per week and complete coursework online.
Students had the opportunity to gain industry-valued certifications as part of these career-training programs including:
- From the Medical Assistant program:
- CPR & First Aid
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training
- Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants
- Certifications through the National Healthcareer Association:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician
- Certified EKG Technician
- Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
During the graduation ceremony, Mrs. Jill Diehl, Practice Manager with Mount Nittany Physician Group, Nicole Zernick, Assistant Director of the GACTC, and Christa Houck, graduate, provided remarks. Christa Houck was recognized for outstanding performance in the medical assistant program.
