Stephanie Weaver, a Registered Nurse (RN) by trade, has been a Practical Nursing Instructor at the GACTC since 2021. She joined our program after working in the medical field her entire adult life, specializing in general medical surgery and in-patient rehabilitation.
Her dedication to the care of patients led her to her role as an instructor because it allowed her to help nurture the next generation of nurses entering the workforce. The skills she developed throughout her healthcare career have positioned her to teach her students various necessary skills.
Working on the floors in a healthcare setting, you get to see a lot and do a lot. All of those skills that you do as a nurse, you translate into teaching.
Teaching came naturally to her because a part of her responsibilities as a nurse was to help with new hire orientation.
“In the Practical Nursing program, we have a lot of skills that we teach, because nursing is very hands-on,” noted Stephanie.
The program is rigorous and requires a lot of dedication to study, physical skills, and a very caring attitude. This means that having someone on staff with the talents and expertise of Stephanie is extremely valuable to the students.
The GACTC’s Practical Nursing lab is outfitted with cutting-edge technology and tools, but that’s not the only way the GACTC is invested in the students.
“We, as instructors, are really invested in our students’ success,” Stephanie pointed out, emphasizing how she and her fellow instructors are committed to finding ways to help all of their students.
I really love teaching. The GACTC has something special to offer. The environment here is great. It’s conducive to learning. And I get to see the students come in, progress through the program, and watch them develop and become more competent and confident in their skills.
The GACTC Practical Nursing program is available as full-time (which is completed in one year) and part-time (which requires two years).
