Students in the welding high school and adult programs at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) completed testing in May 2022 for several American Welding Society (AWS) certifications. GACTC students in the high school and adult welding program had the opportunity to achieve three certifications from AWS including GMAW 2G, SMAW 3G, and FCAW 3G. The GACTC is an Accredited Test Facility through AWS. These certifications are valued by regional employers. On June 16th, a health career fair was held at the GACTC for current adult health sciences students and alumni. Over 30 employers attended to promote their organization's open positions! GACTC students have been preparing references, resumes, cover letters, and growing their professionalism skills, which they were able to put to good use at the career fair. Some attendees were given interviews during the event! Employers may share job opportunities with us to disseminate to our students and alumni using this form.

In May, the GACTC celebrated the accomplishments of 46 postsecondary students that successfully completed career-training programs ranging from automotive technology to welding. We recognized students graduating from the following diploma programs: Automotive Diesel Automotive Technology Carpentry/Construction Computer & Networking Technology Electrical Trades Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Outdoor Power Equipment Technology Welding with Print Reading Collectively, our 46 graduates: Completed more than 41,400 training hours in these programs! Earned over $197,551 in grant funding towards tuition! Twelve students participated in an internship experience during the last term of the program.
