The Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) became aware of allegations related to Executive Director, Eric Palmer, on November 8, 2024. The GACTC takes the allegations seriously and took appropriate action in the interim. The GACTC will fully cooperate with any investigation. Mrs. Nicole Zernick will be serving as Interim Executive Director.

Adult students in healthcare fields graduate from the GACTC on August 4

Thirteen adult students graduated from the Medical Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, and Expanded Function Dental Assistant diploma programs at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) on August 4. The students earned more than $114,000 in grant funding to complete their programs. The six Medical Assistant and one Medical Office Specialist students completed a minimum of 200 hours each of clinical experience at local medical facilities, including rotations in phlebotomy and EKG for the Medical Assistant students. Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center adult & high school welding students earn American Welding Society certifications

Students in the welding high school and adult programs at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) completed testing in May 2022 for several American Welding Society (AWS) certifications. GACTC students in the high school and adult welding program had the opportunity to achieve three certifications from AWS including GMAW 2G, SMAW 3G, and FCAW 3G. GACTC offers workshop for Practical Nursing program applicants

We invite applicants for the Practical Nursing program to join us for a study skills and test taking strategies workshop to prepare for the TEAS entrance exam necessary for the Practical Nursing program. Join us on Wednesday, August 3 from 5:30 to 7 pm at the GACTC for this workshop, which will highlight study skills, strategies for test taking, and information about the TEAS entrance exam. Health Career Fair held for adult Health Sciences students and alumni

On June 16th, a health career fair was held at the GACTC for current adult health sciences students and alumni. Over 30 employers attended to promote their organization's open positions! GACTC students have been preparing references, resumes, cover letters, and growing their professionalism skills, which they were able to put to good use at the career fair. Some attendees were given interviews during the event! Employers may share job opportunities with us to disseminate to our students and alumni using this form.

Adult students complete career training programs in May 2022

In May, the GACTC celebrated the accomplishments of 46 postsecondary students that successfully completed career-training programs ranging from automotive technology to welding. We recognized students graduating from the following diploma programs: Automotive Diesel Automotive Technology Carpentry/Construction Computer & Networking Technology Electrical Trades Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Outdoor Power Equipment Technology Welding with Print Reading Collectively, our 46 graduates: Completed more than 41,400 training hours in these programs! Practical Nursing Student Receives Scholarship from State Association

Bridget Montgomery, student in the Practical Nursing program at the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center (GACTC) is the recipient of a scholarship from the Pennsylvania Association of Practical Nursing Administrators (PAPNA) from the central PA region. Annually, PAPNA awards three scholarships, one from each section of the state, including eastern, western, and central Pennsylvania.
